The European Commission has taken the final step on the path towards the total liberalisation of the postal services by proposing that the distribution of "small" mail by our postmen be opened to free competition on 1 January 2009, this being the last sector which has not yet been liberalised.
For us, the citizens of Europe, the Commission has taken a step too far!
This European directive, if adopted, would have disastrous consequences for us, the citizens: a great number of job losses, an increase in prices, the loss of service to those who need it most in our communities - the elderly and frail - who would never be financially viable customers for private companies.
So that the European Parliament can oppose this draft directive, let us all make our voices heard so that we keep our postmen
and the services they give to the population!
